Where should I put my bird feeders?

Figuring out where to place your bird feeder involves finding a balance between safety and accessibility. It is important that birds can easily find and use your feeder, but also that they are safe from predators. So, near natural shelter such as trees and bushes is a great option. Not to close though - squirrels and cats could use a tree branch as a launching point. As a general rule, always have a minimum clearance of 18 inches around your feeder to prevent squirrels from jumping on and damaging it or stealing the food. Make sure feeders are relatively sheltered from the elements too.
