There are around 1.5 million hedgehogs in the UK – a huge decline from their 1950s numbers in the tens of millions. You can help support them by providing specially formulated hedgehog food to supplement their insect-rich natural diet, alongside a regularly refreshed supply of drinking water.
Hedgehogs are natural scavengers, with a diet that includes beetles, worms, and caterpillars, as well as fruit, birds’ eggs, and occasionally small animals. While their natural menu is perfectly balanced to suit their needs, offering additional food for hedgehogs can provide a helpful boost. Ensure anything you offer complements their natural diet, making the most of their precious foraging time without disrupting their nutritional balance.
Nutritious and delicious, this is an ideal complementary food to help hedgehogs thrive. In step with latest research, it has a carefully balanced level between calcium and phosphorus for better bone health.

Hedgehogs are nocturnal creatures, meaning they are active at night. This means that it is best to put out food in the evening, around dusk. Furthermore, hedgehogs must eat more in the months leading up to hibernation, so this is an especially good time to feed them. However, it is important to only provide a supplement to their natural diet, which prevents them from losing their natural foraging instinct.
Most hedgehogs hibernate during the winter months, but some may not go into hibernation at all. You can leave food out if they are active, they'll appreciate the extra energy boost.
Yes. Feeding hedgehogs supports their health, especially in urban areas where natural food sources can be scarce. Just ensure the feeding area is free from potential predators.
A handful (about 60g) each night is usually sufficient. These are best offered in a shallow dish, and remember to also provide fresh water too.
