Your questions answered

Little Lantern™ and My Favourites™ suit small birds that cling to feed, such as blue tits, coal tits and goldfinches. Bigger birds find them harder to use.

Use sunflower hearts or a fine seed blend. Feed seed from 1 November to 30 April.

Hang it about two metres from cover, such as a shrub or tree, so birds can escape predators. Keep it out of reach of jumping squirrels.

Clean your feeders once a week. Tip out old food, wash every part in hot soapy water or a bird-safe disinfectant, then rinse and let it dry before refilling. Weekly cleaning helps stop the spread of trichomonosis, a disease that passes quickly between finches at shared feeders.
