Why are UK robins so friendly?

Robins are intelligent birds known for their inquisitive nature. So why do Robins follow you around the garden when you are digging? By digging you are creating favourable conditions to find food. By watching you dig over the soil they can spot earthworms and grubs to eat.

This behaviour is connected to their association with wild boar. In European forests and a few in the UK where boar are found, Robins often associate with them. Just like you digging over the soil in your garden, boars turn over the soil in forests so providing opportunities for Robins to snatch food.
