Sultanas

The popular wildlife fruit boost

Many species of garden wildlife are fruit eaters but providing fresh fruit all year round can be difficult. Offering sultanas – large, dried grapes – is a perfect way of solving the problem. Badgers are particularly keen consumers.

Note: feed with care since sultanas are dangerous to dogs.

Your questions answered

Are Sultanas Healthy and Safe for Birds to Eat?

Sultanas are a good food for birds because they are a type of dried grape that has natural sweetness and nutrients that birds need. These dark brown dried grapes come from specific grape varieties and are liked by many kinds of birds.

Unlike the sultanas in breakfast cereal, plain sultanas do not have added sugars and preservatives, which can be bad for birds. It's best to use plain, unsweetened sultanas to keep your garden birds healthy and safe.
