They’re suet cakes with twice the fat of other leading brands, so every visit gives birds more calories. Tub Cakes come ready to hang.

Suet is a good high-energy food for birds. In warm weather it softens and spoils more quickly, so put out only what birds will finish in a day or two and remove any that looks soft or mouldy. They’re especially welcome in late winter and early spring.

Serve them in a suet cake feeder or hang the Tub Cake from a branch. Don’t put them on a bird table, tray or the ground, which attracts rats and spreads disease.

Clean your feeders once a week. Tip out old food, wash every part in hot soapy water or a bird-safe disinfectant, then rinse and let it dry before refilling. Weekly cleaning helps stop the spread of trichomonosis, a disease that passes quickly between finches at shared feeders.
